Since opening in September 1990, CAFÉ KATi has been a San Francisco favorite, consistently earning a Zagat food rating of 25 and higher and receiving international acclaim. As Chef/Owner, I take pride in making CAFÉ KATi a friendly restaurant with some of the best food in town.
Throughout these 15 years, our concept of cooking has remained consistent: to complement the finest local ingredients with spices from Asia and beyond.
I invented this signature style because, as much as I loved the traditional French cooking I was taught at the California Culinary Academy, it was simply too heavy for me to eat every day. Seeking the richness and complexity of flavor that defines French cuisine, I started to lighten my dishes by subtracting fats and adding spices.
After my pivotal CCA training, I worked at Silk’s in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in San Francisco, The City Restaurant in Los Angeles and the Hyatt Regency, Los Angeles all the while refining my cooking concept.
In 1990, I opened CAFÉ KATi with the tag line: "A Combination of East Meets West". Our style was bold and new, and journalists proclaimed us the pioneer of "fusion." Since bursting on the scene, CAFÉ KATi has continued to wow both critics and customers alike.
We have been fortunate to receive many honors throughout the years. In 2002, we co-created and launched Café California, a Kirk Webber Restaurant in downtown Tokyo. Café California features a CAFÉ KATi-style menu was designed under Kirk Webber’s guidance. In 2004, Kirk Webber received the prestigious "Chef of the Year" award from California Culinary Academy, an honor he shares with esteemed chefs including Alice Waters and Roland Passot.
Today our concept is perhaps even more relevant than when we opened, as people increasingly look for restaurants that offer healthful choices without sacrificing flavor. While maintaining loyalty to our roots, we are constantly evolving our menu to present exciting new dishes each day. We take pride in procuring the finest ingredients from small, local vendors, including those listed below.
An intimate neighborhood restaurant, CAFÉ KATi is warm and inviting. On many evenings the restaurant is filled with friends and regulars who all seem to know each other. Please come join the feasting and the fun. We’ll make sure you have a great time! Virtual tour of KATi --- Kirk Webber/Owner-Chef
